This is actually a continuation of my post from yesterday, I didn’t get to finish. At one point web design and programming were in the cycle, but since I do that at work now, I don’t really feel like doing much of it at home. Last week we finally went live with a new web design at work that I made. Now that I am not embarassed to have my name attached to it, I will link it up – www.homeandgardenparty.com. It is not my best design, but it serves the purpose they want, and it will be easy to change every six months.
I think I am going to use this space for mini reviews of the things I watch/read/play since I have always wanted to do something like that.
Recently I have realized that I can only support 2 main liesure activities at a time and I tend to rotate them out every few months. Around summer they were watching Anime and watching movies. Then it moved on to watching American tv shows and reading. Now it seems I have moved to reading and computer games. This is not to say that I don’t do all of these things all the time, but there are usually two that take up the majority of my time and I find myself thinking on them regularly.
Once again it has been a long time since i even looked at my site. There was a long time when I was getting over the Melissa thing where I really didn’t have much to say at all about anything. I think that is mostly over now, and I recently realized that I do have things to talk about now. As to whether anyone actually reads this, I am not sure and I don’t care, but it does always suprise me when I randomly run into somone who knows who I am.
First, for anyone still wondering, the answer to what happened with etboo.com. I have half of the whole storied saga written up in a long essay that will eventually get posted at etboo.com once I finish it, and probably after I graduate. The short version is that the ETBU administration as a whole and President Bob Riley in particular do not like dissenting opinions from students. You can argue for days over how much freedom should be given to people at what points in their life, and how the best way to live as a Christian is, but Riley would rather run the school his way and not hear other opinions, especially when they are pretty radical from a traditional “Baptist” point of view.
The reason we abandoned etboo.com was that we got tired of fighting and even a little scared for our future at ETBU. We put up a good fight for a year and a half, but then we got tired of the constant comical uselessness and impotency of the SGA and had a few personal incedents with Riley himself. We moved off campus, which put the day to day ETBU ultra-conservative hardships behind us, and then they once again blocked us from all campus computers. We decided to just let it die. Another chapter in the continuing story of students at ETBU fighting for sanity in a definitively insane environment, in line after The Judge and ProtractorX. Sometime after that, the forums got hacked and we just took it down. I do think we accomplished some good things, at least for a while and I am sure the flag will be carried on in some form by other students. I wish you better outcomes than we had.
I guess that’s enough for now.
Digitally Imported streaming European trance.
It’s been a while since I have felt like updating this. More to come later.
Spring break was last week and it was rather boring. Didn’t do much of anything worth talking about. I did get a new digital camera, which I had been thinking about for a while. It just seemed like I was wanting to borrow a camera from someone else more than I would like, and I have a thing against non-digital cameras.
I have been messing around with my webserver configuration trying to get some new things working. After quite a while of installing programs I finally got GD working with PHP. Melissa is already using it to dynamically generate and cache a thumbnail of her webcam pic. I am trying to figure out something nifty I can do with it. I may automate my pictures page more than it is now.
Last Sunday was the one year mark for me and Melissa. It has been a really great year =)
Some random techno streaming from a shoutcast site
I haven’t really done anything worth talking about lately. This weekend I am going to be an usher in Andy’s wedding, which ought to be interesting.
I have been playing around with the Apache 2.0 beta and trying to get mod_ssl working with a self-signed certificate. No luck yet, but I seem to be getting there slowly.
